Designated Survivor season 3 Netflix release date, cast, trailer, plot | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Designated Survivor season three has been confirmed by Netflix and has finally been given a release date after months of anticipation. Kiefer Sutherland will be back to lead the Designated Survivor cast having starred in every episode to date. As more and more details surrounding season three come to light, here’s everything there is to know about Designated Survivor so far.

When will Designated Survivor season 3 be released?

Designated Survivor season three has been given a Netflix release date of Friday, June 7, 2019.

Season three bucks the trend set by the first two seasons of Designated Survivor, both of which were released in September of their respective years.

Netflix will likely release every episode of Designated Survivor season three at the same time for fans to binge-watch.

The first two seasons of Designated Survivor were released on a weekly basis by Netflix when they premiered.

This was due to ABC, the US network, airing each episode Stateside once a week.

ABC dropped Designated Survivor after season two, however, meaning Netflix is able to distribute season three as it wishes.

What will happen in Designated Survivor season 3?

The plot for season three hasn’t been released by Netflix just yet.

Designated Survivor will likely follow the events of season two in which President Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) tries to adjust to his fractured family home.

His son Leo (Tanner Buchanan) decided to leave his family in Washington to pursue a college experience on the west coast.

Tom’s wife Alex (Natascha McElhone) tragically died in a car crash earlier, leaving the inexperienced President struggling with obstacles in his personal and professional lives.

The only clue as to what will happen in season three comes from Sutherland himself.

In a Netflix promo for Designated Survivor, the lead actor said: “The common theme through seasons one, two, and three is: Can a good man stay a good man surrounded by the world of politics?

“Season three will be his greatest test so far.”

Who is in the cast of Designated Survivor season 3?

Golden Globe-winner Sutherland reprises the lead role of Tom Kirkman in season three.

He’ll be joined by fellow series regular Seth Wright, played by Harold and Kumar star Kal Penn.

X-Men and Narcos star Adan Conto will make a comeback as the character of Aaron Shore.

Maggie Q, who fans may recognise from CBS’ Stalker, is set to maintain her 100 percent appearance record in season three as Hannah Wells.

Other actors to keep an eye out for include LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter, Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, and McKenna Grace as Penny Kirkman.

Is there a trailer for Designated Survivor season 3?

Netflix hasn’t released an official trailer for Designated Survivor season three.

However, two promo clips for the upcoming series have dropped online.

The first is a short clip featuring Kal Penn’s character Seth Wright as he addresses the audience.

Seth informs fans Designated Survivor has “decided to side with” Netflix.

The second clip released ahead of season three is a short recap of seasons one and two by Sutherland.

Designated Survivor season 3 will be available to stream from Friday, June 7.
