Queen: Rare Freddie Mercury childhood photo revealed by Brian May | Music | Entertainment

Mercury, who died in 1991, became a global megastar alongside May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon in Queen; surely one of the best-loved music acts of all time. This week May has been in Zanzibar, retracing the footsteps Mercury – born Farrokh Bulsara – made as a child; including visiting his old home and school. Now, he has reflected on his visit by sharing a childhood photo of the late legend.

He wrote: “We’ve enjoyed spending the day with this little boy in our minds. A small boy with big dreams.

“A young man who became a brother to Roger and John and me for 22 years.

“A shy boy with whom we shared an impossible vision of making music that would change the world.

“Little did we dare to believe it would actually happen.”

He added: “I’m happy that through Instagram I’ve been able to share some of the experiences of today. I’ll post some more pics and stuff when I get sorted.

“Meanwhile … Asante Sana Freddie. Cheers folks. And thanks @freddiemercuryb for this lovely pic I don’t recall seeing before.”

May’s previous posts, which saw him and wife Anita Dobson out and about in Zanzibar, left followers tearful.

“At Freddie’s school. Under guidance from Freddie’s lovely sister Kashmira, and Abdul, our excellent Zanzibarian guide, we managed to retrace many of Freddie’s childhood steps,” he had written.

“This something I dreamed of doing for many years. Nice to share with you folks.”

Queen will be off on tour again soon, with Adam Lambert on vocals.

The jaunt starts in Canada on July 10 before venturing through North America until late August.

Queen are then in Asia, Australia and New Zealand in early 2020, with UK dates yet to be announced.
